What's the difference between a cookie class and a decorating party?
We have two types of in-person cookie decorating experiences—our Decorating Parties, and our Cookie Classes. 

• Our Decorating Parties (usually 75 min long) are purely a fun, creative, enjoyable sensory celebration!  Everything will be ready for you to unleash your creative spirit on your cookies!  These sessions will always include learning some easy cookie decorating techniques and tricks, but will not dive into the ins and outs of cookie decorating.
• Our Cookie Classes (usually 2 hours) are perfect for those looking to learn a new skill and for aspiring cookiers!  Have you seen a cool technique on TV or online that you’d love to learn?  Then the Cookie Classes are the right place for you! We will review the basics, and you will be provided with tried-and-true recipes and techniques to try at home.

What would I be doing at a decorating party?

• Besides having the most fun ever? I will be introducing you to some fun and easy decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies that you will take home with you that day.

What would I be doing at a cookie class?

• Having a blast and learning a lot!  In the cookie classes, I (your cookie coach) will guide you step-by-step through each of the offered designs.  You will learn about and practice royal icing consistency and several different decorating techniques each class.  You can ask all the questions you like!  And if you decide you'd like to go rogue and ignore all my instructions--that's fine too!  

Do I need to know how to bake?

• Nope! The cookies will be pre-baked for you!  An ingredients list will be provided with the cookie kit on the day of the session, and can be requested by email before that day.

What do I need to bring?

• Nothing! Everything will be provided for you, including tasty, home-made sugar cookies. All you need to do is join in and have fun! Messy decorator? Feel free to bring your own apron or just wear easy-to-wash clothing.

What age is best for cookie sessions?
It depends on what type of cookie session you are considering.  We offer both skill-building cookie classes and fun-focused decorating parties.  

• Cookie classes are focused on developing and practicing cookie decorating skills and are best suited for those age 12 and up. 
• Cookie decorating parties are all about cookie fun! They are generally a good fit for those age 6 and up; however, kiddos 6-11 years will need a responsible grown-up attending the session as well. 
  • Accompanying responsible grown-ups can get their own cookie kits or a limited number of “chaperone” seats are available for a reduced price, which does not include an additional cookie kit.  If you would like to bring more than one kiddo who is 6-11 years old, please reach out by email to discuss arrangements. 

Can just my child attend a cookie session?

• All attendees aged 6-11 and under can only attend decorating parties (not cookie classes) and must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  
• Those 12-17 years old (who are self-directed enough to work without continuous supervision) can be dropped off decorating parties or cookie classes and picked up at the end.  A responsible adult must be there to pick up any unaccompanied 12-17 year-olds within 15 minutes of the end of the session.  

What will I take home with me?

• By the end of the cookie session, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry in their own box. You will also take home any extra sprinkles and icing you have, as well as a cookie scribe that you can keep!  And of course, you’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!
  • Those attending specified cookie classes will upgrade to a fancy cookie scribe, and will also take home an icing spatula, extra piping bags, and an edible marker.

Can I purchase additional cookies and supplies to take home?

• Yes! Many cookie-lovers purchase additional cookie kits to take home. You can typically purchase an add-on kit when you sign up for a cookie session. Your take-home DIY cookie kit(s) will be available at the end of your session - so don't forget to ask!

Where are the sessions located?

• The locations of the sessions will be posted along the other class details on the Just Add Cookies website.  Just Add Cookies is located in Kent, OH, so many classes are likely to be in and around Kent. 

Do you offer virtual cookie sessions?

• At this time I am not offering virtual sessions - but if you're interested, please let me know and I will consider it for future events!

The times or locations listed don’t work for me.  Can you come to my home?

• I do offer at-home cookie sessions!  Whether it be a birthday party, a baby shower, or just a session for your family.  Reach out and let’s discuss options!

Cancellations, Illnesses, and Refunds

What if the class gets cancelled?

• We hope never to have to cancel a class!  However, if illness, weather, facilities or other issues lead to cancellation of the class, you will receive a full refund of the class fee.  

What if I signed up for a session but can't make it?

• :( We understand that life happens so that’s why we allow you to cancel for a full refund up to 5 days before the session.
• Any cancelation within 5 days of the session and before session start time will receive a Just Add Cookies credit for 50% of the class price, and redeemable for up to 6 months from the credit issue date. Or you can choose to transfer your spot to a friend with no additional fee (and what a nice friend you are)! 
• If you do not cancel before the session starts or do not show up, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit.  So please reach out before class starts!

What if I signed up for a class, but I’m sick?

• If you’re sick and contact me more than five days before the cookie session, you will receive a full refund.
• If you are sick and notify me within five days of the session and before the class starts, you will receive a credit for the full amount which can be used towards a future cookie session within six months of the credit issue date.
• If you are sick and do not notify me before the session starts or you do not show up, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit regardless of whether you're sick. So please reach out before class starts if you’re feeling sick!
• If you arrive at a session with observable symptoms of COVID-19 or flu, I will ask that you leave, but I’ll give you a full credit towards a future session. I want you better and you need some rest!

​What precautions are being taken to protect from COVID-19 and other transmissible diseases?

• As per state and federal guidance, you will not be required to wear a mask throughout the class.  However, unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask, and anyone can choose to wear a mask if they’d like! I will provide masks, hand sanitizer, and hand wipes for attendees. Each station is disinfected before the session begins.
